2016-06-19 - LRPOA Executive Act on Mute Swan Problems

News > 2016-06-19 - LRPOA Executive Act on Mute Swan Problems

The resident Mute Swan family have increased their attacks on people. These conflicts have increased to the point where action must be taken for safety reasons. Mute Swans are very large and powerful birds capable of causing serious injury to people and pets. Residents are encouraged to always maintain a very large distance between the swans and themselves, and to never approach the swans or feed them.

Mute Swans are not native to Canada, and as such are considered an invasive species. To learn more, please review the Environment Canada attachments regarding the Mute Swan and the General Information on the Migratory Bird Danger Permit.

Acting on the safety concerns and the fact that these species are invasive, the LRPOA Executive are now proceeding with an application to remove the Swans from the lake. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact either Peter McEwen or Steve Westman (see contacts page).
